One of the earliest collections my husband and I began was our bride & groom wedding cake toppers. Back in the late 1970's we were browsing through an antique shop and happened to come across a 1930's porcelain bride & groom cake topper. It was enclosed in a little matching porcelain and glass dome and I instantly fell in love with it. At that time, for us, the $20 price tag was a little expensive for something merely decorative, but my husband insisted on buying it for me. You can see that first topper on the top shelf of the above photo.
Currently, we have around 45 bride & groom wedding cake toppers in our collection, and have expanded to include a few contemporary ones, vintage & antique wedding photos, invitations, bride's books, greeting cards and even a veil or two. At first we were able to find all kinds of the cake toppers for under $1.00 at flea markets and we bought every one we saw. After a while, however, the wedding cake toppers became very popular collectibles and prices zoomed beyond anything sensible. Very rarely do we buy them anymore, but still keep our eyes open for any examples we don't already have.
Our brides & grooms are constructed from many different materials, from the common ceramic and plaster ones to those made from pipe cleaners & crepe paper, solid brass, celluloid, plastic, clothespins and seashells. It's been fun sharing a collecting interest with my husband for all these years. And what could be more appropriate for that collection than these charming and lovely symbols of marriage?

HI Pam
What a cute collection. I can see that first couple in their glass dome! reminds me of snow globes which I love and wish I had collected...
I wonder what your collection would be worth today?
Have a great Sunday,.. xx Julie
What a wonderful collection! I have seen these at antique stores and thought about collecting them too, how great someone out there is!
